Conserving Florida’s Wildlife

Florida’s biological diversity is exceedingly rich. We are famous for our alligators, manatees and Florida panthers. All told, Florida has 490 species of birds, 88 species of reptiles, 280 species of amphibians and 57 species of mammals all native to Florida. In the last two years, the Foundation and its donors have made more than $4 million in grants for wildlife conservation, from underwriting the start-up of 16 new FWC critical wildlife nesting areas for pelicans, herons, egrets, terns, plovers and other colonial waterbirds to expansion of Zoo Tampa’s Florida panther rehabilitation center, one of the projects funded by our Panther Fund. We’ve also provided more than $400,000 to local communities to purchase bear-proof trash containers to reduce the potential for human-bear conflicts. You can make a general gift to support our wildlife conservation work below. You can also designate your gift for a particular species or group of species. Currently, for example, we are actively fundraising to prevent extinction of Florida grasshopper sparrows and Florida bonneted bats, as well as for ongoing conservation of Florida panthers and rare plants. If you have a particular plant, animal or place in mind, include it in the note field below or call us at 941 809-7805 to discuss.
