Communications & Events Coordinator


The Communications & Events Coordinator will work with the Director of Communications to grow the Foundation’s diverse community, both digitally via social media and in-person via events. S/he will write content, explore new strategies on social media, and help design campaigns. S/he will administer the Foundation’s social media accounts, including Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

The Communications and Events Coordinator will also work with the Director of Communications to design, plan, and implement Foundation events across the state, including the UN Noche para la naturaleza gala, donor lunches, biologist talks, and various outdoor recreation events. S/he will also help represent the Foundation at partner events like iCAST, lionfish rodeos, and FWC’S Marine Quest. S/he will work with the Director of Communications on other projects as needed.

All activities will ultimately drive toward increasing engagement and converting followers and attendees into donors. The Communications & Events Coordinator will work closely with Foundation staff in St. Petersburg and Tallahassee. S/he reports to the Director of Communications and may oversee the work of interns, contractors, and vendors.


  • Oversee the Foundation’s social media platforms, keeping content fresh, compelling, visually appealing, and strategic with partnerships.
  • Develop and implement strategies to spark giving via social media.
  • Assist in the design, planning, and implementation of Foundation events or partner events.
  • Supervise interns, vendors, or contractors.
  • Other duties as assigned, including occasional traditional communications tasks.


  • Bachelor’s degree and three years related work experience in an office setting or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong social media and event planning experience and skills, with a track record of managing multiple social media platforms and several events per year.
  • Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to write to deadlines.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop and Premiere Pro, a plus.
  • Knowledge of fundraising principles and practices.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence, with the ability to interact successfully with donors, Board members, work colleagues, state employees, and the public at large.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects at the same time.
  • Experience in or appreciation for conservation and the outdoors a plus.
  • Fluency in Spanish a plus.


  • Ability to manage projects with many variables, set realistic deadlines, and manage to a timeline.
  • Ability to adapt or modify projects and processes in response to changing circumstances, often on short notice.
  • Ability to interpret guidelines and analyze factual information.


  • Duties are performed under general supervision and established guidelines.
  • Demonstrates common sense, flexibility, and teamwork with the ability to exercise independent judgment.
  • Opportunity to act independently on assigned tasks. Refers difficult questions and unusual problems to the supervisor.


  • Supervise volunteers, interns, vendors, or contractors.
  • Financial responsibility may include working within a budget to complete projects and assisting with budget development and meeting fundraising goals.
  • Works within the scope of the program’s strategic goals.


  • Demonstrated experience using effective interpersonal skills, listening, diplomacy, and tact to build strong professional relationships and motivate vendors, staff, and volunteers.
  • Well-developed written and oral communication, negotiating, and organizational skills.


  • Work is performed in a typical office setting and requires only minor physical exertion and/or physical strain.  The work environment involves only infrequent exposure to disagreeable elements.
  • Occasional overnight travel, usually within Florida, required.
  • Must have personal transportation to run errands, attend meetings, etc.
