Get Ready for #GivingTuesday

By: Kyle Grammatica

This year’s Giving Tuesday is right around the corner: Tuesday, December 3rd. In preparation, let’s take a look at the Giving Tuesday movement and its history!

Giving Tuesday was founded in 2012 by New York’s 92nd Street Y (Young Men’s and Young Women’s Hebrew Association) in partnership with the United Nations Foundation. It is celebrated every year on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving in response to the consumerism of Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and the holiday season overall. Over the years, Giving Tuesday has become a global event and is the largest giving movement in the world. In 2018 Giving Tuesday inspired people to donate over $400 million; since its inception, it has raised more than $1 billion online in the United States alone.

Giving Tuesday’s impacts reach beyond a single day. Data shows that people who donate on Giving Tuesday are 10-15% more likely to donate again, and in surveys taken by Giving Tuesday participants, 82% said that they were inspired to be more giving in their lives.

If you are looking for a way to do good on Giving Tuesday, please consider donating to our Foundation. Your money will go towards important conservation projects across the state of Florida. These projects ensure that our state’s incredible natural beauty is preserved for generations to come. From our clear blue springs to our tranquil pine sandhills, Florida’s nature is second to none and it deserves to be protected. You can learn more about ways to give here.
