Florida’s identity is inseparable from the water.

Healthy marine habitats also power Florida’s economy, support coastal communities, and sustain the fish and wildlife that make our state unlike anywhere else.
But these habitats are under increasing pressure.
Natural reefs continue to decline while changing ocean conditions and growing demand for recreation place additional stress on Florida’s marine ecosystems. As habitat disappears, fish and other marine life lose the places they need to feed, grow, reproduce, and find shelter.
Today, we’re proud to introduce Florida’s Coastal Corridor, a new long-term initiative led by the Fish & Wildlife Foundation of Florida in partnership with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) to help restore and strengthen Florida’s coastal habitats for generations to come.
Just as forests, wetlands, and wildlife corridors on land depend on connectivity, Florida’s marine habitats are connected beneath the waves.
Mangroves, seagrass, oyster reefs, natural reefs, and artificial reefs all work together as part of one coastal ecosystem. Fish often rely on multiple habitats throughout their lives, moving between them as they grow. When one piece of that system is lost, the effects ripple throughout the entire ecosystem.
Florida’s Coastal Corridor is built on that understanding. These projects will be guided by science, developed in collaboration with partners and local communities, and designed to deliver lasting conservation benefits.
