Making Room for More Footsteps at SYCC

The Suncoast Youth Conservation Center (SYCC) in Apollo Beach is getting ready for summer in a big way! Thanks to the generosity of Daphne and C. Martin “Marty” Wood III in partnership with our Foundation, they have brand-new composite steps and an accessibility ramp leading to its main education building. This essential upgrade ensures a safer, longer-lasting, and more inclusive path for all visitors. The old lumber had seen better days, but the new materials will stand up to Florida’s wild weather and the footsteps of thousands of eager young explorers heading to camp this June.

As part of the Florida Youth Conservation Centers Network (FYCCN), SYCC hosts immersive summer camps and hands-on programs that connect kids to wild Florida, from kayaking through mangroves to learning marine science by the bay. This new, durable path isn’t just a construction project; It’s a symbol of the journeys that begin here, where curious minds become future conservationists.
