John was born in Tampa, FL and grew up in Plant City. A graduate of the University of Florida, he began his career in banking with the Peoples Bank of Lakeland. He moved to Jacksonville in 1976 as a trust officer with Barnett Bank of Jacksonville/Barnett Banks Trust Company. He is a graduate of the Florida Bankers Trust School and attended the American Bankers Graduate Trust School at Northwestern University. He began his brokerage career with The Robinson Humphrey Company in 1982 and has worked in the securities industry since. He is currently employed as a financial advisor with Retirement Strategies, Inc., an independent SEC-registered wealth manager in Jacksonville.
He has been married to his wife Jane for 36 years and they have three adult children, an English setter named Maggie and two cats.
Active as a volunteer leader with Ducks Unlimited for over 30 years, John has served as President in 2009-2010 and continues as an At Large Board Member. He is a member of the Rotary Club of South Jacksonville, The 200 Club of Jacksonville, Jacksonville Clay Target Sports, professional associations and serves on the board of The Children’s Home Society-Buckner Division.
He enjoys sports, outdoor activities, hunting and fishing, skeet and sporting clays and travel with Jane.
