This year, proceeds from the “deer” Wildlife Foundation of Florida license plate funded critical habitat conservation, research, and public engagement projects across the state. Altogether, this year’s grant cycle yielded $412,434 in grant dollars!
Highlights of the work supported include:
- Habitat restoration and management: Grants will support prescribed fire, invasive plant removal, and habitat improvements benefiting deer and other game species, including funding for a clean up day at Apalachicola National Forest and turkey habitat management through National Wild Turkey Federation.
- Wildlife research and monitoring: Funding will advance studies on deer populations and support continued FWC monitoring for chronic wasting disease.
- Youth and public engagement: Programs will expand outdoor opportunities for youth, including the first annual youth turkey hunt through the Southeastern Dog Hunters Association, and a youth deer and dove hunt in partnership with Seasons of Hope Outdoors, Inc.
A huge thank you to every Floridian who purchases our “deer” license plate. Your support makes these projects possible and helps safeguard Florida’s game species, wildlife, and wild lands for generations to come.
